Green Perfume flavour of week in Victoria
Green Perfume, the sire of Baldessari, winner in New Zealand on New Year's Day of the historic Group 1 sprint at Auckland's Ellerslie racecourse, the Railway Stakes, is the flavour of the week as far as Victoria sires are concerned. A son of the Mr. Prospector sire Naevus and stakes placed Pretty Is. Green Perfume was transferred in 2005 from the Chequers Stud in New Zealand to Claremont Thoroughbreds, Balmoral, Victoria.
Foaled in America in1992, he had had been one of Europe's leading two-year-olds of 1994, a year he was in the first two in all six outings including wins in Germany (a Group 2 event) and England and seconds in the latter country in two of their most prestigious Group1 tests, the Middle Park Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes.
Also winner of three races in England up to 1600 metres at four years, Green Perfume has had 56 winners from 88 runners got in New Zealand including three other stakes winners. One of them, Jadescent, won the MVRC William Crockett Stakes-LR and finished second in the VRC Ascot Vale Stakes-Gr.2, Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes-Gr.3 and MRC Thoroughbred Club Stakes-Gr.3.
Other New Zealand bred winners by Green Perfume have included the tough performers Sovereign (eight wins including Wellington Lightning Stakes), Delvecchio (12 wins including six in Melbourne; second Ballarat Cup and third in the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington) and Hong Kong winners Flashing Star, Happy Master, Horace's Horse and Telecom Superboss.
Green Perfume's Railway Stakes winning son Baldessarini, a five-year-old gelding, had not previously won a stakes event but had scored in six sprint races in of 12 starts.
He is from the unraced American mare In Margaritaville, the dam also of the American and New Zealand Listed winner Camacho and the Success Express Auckland Listed winner Venezuela.
In Margaritaville is by the Northfields sire Northjet and from an unraced Secretariat mare who was a three-quarter sister to Law Society, a winner of the Irish Derby and second in the English Derby.
