NBI agents seize fake perfume and cosmetics
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation seized P2 million worth of counterfeit signature perfume and cosmetic products during a raid on two outlets and a warehouse operated by a Chinese firm in Binondo, Manila last Thursday.
Raided were outlets and warehouses of Meowndes General Merchandise at the groundfloor of the New Divisoria Mall, fifth floor of Juan Luna Plaza Shopping Mall on Juan Luna Street and at the Doña Maria Lim Building along Sto. Cristo Street, all in Binondo. A certain Kevin or Sholan Go reportedly owns the establishments.
Seized from the establishments were 1,970 bottles of assorted counterfeit perfume and cosmetic products of Giorgio Armani, Lancôme, Guy Laroche, Polo/Ralph Lauren and L’Oreal, all manufactured and imported from China.
Agents of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division under head agent Jose Justo Yap conducted the raid on the strength of 30 search warrants issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr.
Yap said his team conducted a week-long surveillance operation against the establishments prior to the raid.
He also said charges of trademark infringement and unfair competition will be filed before the Manila Prosecutor Office against the owner of the raided establishments.
